where doing GOOD
is made EASY

Greater Fairfield's go-to site for
volunteering, donating goods, and getting involved
With today's busy lifestyle, it can be easy to let "being green" fall through the cracks. However, just like TCC's philosophy on giving back, there is something for everyone. Look at the list below (compiled with the help of Carbon Nation) and see what easy changes you can make to be a little greener.

"Nobody makes a greater mistake than he who does nothing because he could do only a little" -Edmund Burke

Energy Efficiency

  • Weatherize your house, if there is a draft there is a leak
  • Don't let your car idle for longer than 3 minutes
  • Unplug, DVD players, coffee makers, phone chargers, anything not in use
  • Skip the bath and take a shower (a short one - under 5 minutes)
  • Involve the kids! Have them earn allowance by finding ways to reduce the utility bills

Clean Energy

  • Buy your utility's green energy option (usually listed in your bill - just check the box!) To learn more visit Community Energy Inc.
  • Install a Solar Hot Water Heater. To learn more click here
  • Install a home Geothermal Heat Pump. To learn more click here
  • Seek out community purchasing groups to buy and install solar panels in bulk, like 1bog.org

 Land Use

  • Meatless Monday! Eat meat one day less a week
  • Eat local food, efficiently delivered.
  • Use only Forest Stewardship wood products
  • Use a push lawn mower
  • Bike to work/school/shopping etc.! Fairfield just implemented a new bike path on Mill Plain Rd.
  • Recycle! Many towns now have single stream recycling making it so much easier to recycle. Many textiles (your old worn clothes that cannot be used by someone else) can be recycled. GoodWill Industries and H&M recycle old worn and stained clothes.
  • If it can't be recycled, it can be almost certainly be donated or repurposed. Check out TCC's "Where to Donate" page
