Learning ESL (English as a Second Language) is not only beneficial to the student but impacts the lives of those around them as well. ESL gives them the foundation they need to further their education and employment opportunities as well as  allows them to read to their children and enables them to help their children with their homework.

It also is a great way keep your Spanish or other language skills fresh. Below are some organization that would appreciate your ESL volunteer opportunities.

Mercy Learning Center of Bridgeport, Inc. provides basic literacy and life skills training to low-income women using a holistic approach within a compassionate, supportive environment. All women are welcome without regard for race, religion, color, creed, sexual orientation or national origin. Since starting in 1987, we have helped empower over 9,000 women and children.

We are currently in need of reading, math, and English as a Second Language (ESL) tutors. No experience is necessary and all materials and training are provided! Tutors are matched with a student (or small group of students) and meet with their student(s) for two hours twice each week. New tutor trainings are offered throughout the year.  It is truly a powerful experience—tutors often report that their lives are as transformed as their students’!
