National Make A Difference Day!


For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine and Points of Light have joined together to sponsor Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Make A Difference Day is a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Millions of volunteers from around the world will unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others on Make A Difference Day, Saturday, October 26, 2013.


National Make A Difference Day Ideas:


  • Stock the pantry shelves at the Norma Pfriem Urban Outreach Initiative at the Bridgeport Congregational Church with: Boxed starches, juices and canned fruits, dehydrated or boxed milk, breakfast cereals, tuna, baby formula, cereals, pureed foods, canned soup, toilet paper, pasta and pasta sauce, diapers, canned beans, peanut butter and jelly
  • Schedule a to make a meal for the community supper at Norma Pfriem Urban Outreach Initative. Cook, serve and clean meals in the community supper offered at the Bridgeport Congregational Church. Teens over the age of 15 may volunteer with an adult (6 kids per 1 adult). Thursday evenings. 

  • Donate your gently used childrens books. Have your children go through their book shelves and select the ones they no longer read. Books may be donated to the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County or Read to Grow. (Read more...)

  • Organize a seasonal clothing drive. Organizations such as Norma Pfriem Urban Outreach, the Community Closet or Operation Hope are in need of Mens XL, XXL clothing, winter boots, socks and new underwear.

  • Organize a beach or park cleanup! This is a fun way to get everyone involved! All you need is a time, a place, garbage bags and some rubber gloves!
